Our Backstory
Today, more than 42 million individuals are facing poverty and confronting the harsh realities of economic insecurity. I, Divyanshi Mehrotra, witness its impact both in my own community—along the neighborhood creek—and in the heart of Los Angeles. The crisis first presented itself to me during the COVID-19 pandemic, when my neighbors were evicted from their home as a result of rising rents and inflationary pressures. They soon succame to the hands of poverty, and it was a defining moment for both them and me.
I soon founded Serve Homeless, an organization dedicated to addressing poverty and homelessness in Los Angeles. Since its inception, the organization has partnered with community groups to support displaced individuals, organized food distribution efforts, and raised funds through charity athletic events. One of our biggest events was when we partnered with United Sikhs during the Palisades and Eaton fires, and helped over 1000+ displaced individuals by providing food, clothing, and necessities. What began as a personal response to a neighbor’s struggle has now grown into a movement of service, compassion, and action—one that continues to expand its reach and impact.
